Fall has arrived, but few leaves are turning the beautiful colors I loved in N.J. But we don’t have snow!!!

September was a quiet month for us but there was so much rain that perhaps it was a blessing. There is nothing worse than getting caught outdoors in complete clown mode during a storm! Umbrellas are useless since we are always carrying supplies, a sopping wig is not very comfortable, and my giant clown shoes don’t do well on wet surfaces.

Our event at Boca Helping Hands “Bowling For Bread” was a total success. There were a few hundred kids attending and our balloon table was very crowded. At one point all five of us were twisting and that is unusual. Giggles, our newest clown, had a great time and the kids really liked her! It’s not easy to “stay in clown character” when people question you about “how long have you been doing this? etc. and little kids are listening. The problem occurs when you revert back to “normal” and lose that clown persona. New clowns tend to forget they are “ in clown” and that can destroy the illusion. Years ago, in N.J. we had a retired physician in our alley who used the name Doctor Funny Bones, and he had a terrible time not giving medical advice when he was asked if he was in fact a doctor. Most of the time he quickly assumed his real personality and the clown vanished.

Twinkle Toes and I will be doing a Halloween theme “Red Nose Readers” at the YMCA in mid October. I will reading a cute book about a square pumpkin who is not accepted originally in the pumpkin patch because he is “different”, and then saves the patch in a storm because he is not round and stops others from rolling away. Even the 3 year olds can understand the concept of being different, so it’s a learning experience as well as listening to a story.

On October 31st, the Club is having its annual “Trunk -O-Ween event from 11:00-2:00 and the Community is invited to attend. We will be there to help entertain, so please come by and say hello.

One last announcement – I have another Clown Notice in this issue, which I hope all of you will read. We are offering free training sessions in magic, juggling and balloon twisting for kids ages 10-16, If you have family living off campus, they are welcome to attend.

Don’t forget to wave if you see a clown on campus!
