Robots have invaded the library! Or, rather, Limbots. From October 12 to November 20, the Boca Raton Public Library will host “Spare Parts Universe” by Oliver Sarkis, a free exhibition introducing visitors to a strange, imaginative, and entirely handmade mechanical universe.
At the heart of Sarkis’ creative world are the Limbots: post-industrial robot sculptures assembled from recycled and salvaged materials, including mechanical parts, discarded electronics, and an assortment of found objects. No two are quite alike. Each one combines a rugged skeletal frame with intricate details, giving these small robots—each standing about a foot tall—a personality all their own.
An Armenian artist born in Montreal and now based in Boca Raton, Sarkis spent 30 years working in diamond-setting before turning his attention to building an entire universe of his own. More than 10,000 hours later, that universe includes robot sculptures, a trading card game, a clothing line, digital art, an improv cartoon show, and much more.

For Sarkis, the Limbots are more than sculptures—they are the building blocks of everything he creates. “The Limbots are the foundation of my universe,” Sarkis explains. “Without them, nothing functions. They are my blueprints for everything I build, […].”
Even their homes are works of art. The Limbots are displayed in holding cases made from broken mirrors and scrap materials, while adjustable eyebrows give the robots a surprisingly expressive way to communicate emotion. Together, the sculptures and their surroundings create a fascinating mechanical world where discarded objects are given a new life—and a personality.
But beneath the gears, glue, and salvaged parts is something deeply personal. For Sarkis, building Limbots is also a way to quiet the noise of everyday life. “I battle anxiety, and when I have a glue gun in my hand, the rest of the world goes out the window […]. It gives me a sense of mental clarity I can’t find anywhere else.”
Part sculpture, part storytelling, and part imaginative escape, “Spare Parts Universe” by Sarkis invites visitors to step inside a world where scrap becomes art, robots become characters, and even the smallest mechanical creation has a story to tell.
“Spare Parts Universe”, a free exhibit, will run from October 12, 2026 through November 20, 2026 at the Spanish River Library, 1501 NW Spanish River Blvd, during regular library hours.
