From Untouched Shoreline to Iconic Resort Destination, Exhibit Traces the Evolution of Boca Raton’s Coast
The Boca Raton Historical Society and The Schmidt Boca Raton History Museum invite the community to experience “Life’s a Beach,” a new exhibition exploring the rich and evolving history of Boca Raton’s coastline, on view September 9, 2026 through February 27, 2027.
“Boca Raton’s beaches are central to its story,” said Olivia Hollaus, Executive Director of the Boca Raton Historical Society. “This exhibit offers a unique look at how the coastline has evolved over time—and how it continues to define the community today.”
Much of Boca Raton’s identity is rooted in its beaches—from the wide, undeveloped shoreline of the 1890s to the vibrant coastal destination known today. “Life’s a Beach” brings that story to life, charting the transformation of the city’s waterfront through immersive displays and historical artifacts.
The exhibit highlights key moments in Boca Raton’s coastal development, including the rise of beachfront living, the growth of oceanfront parks along Palmetto Park Road, and the glamour of destinations like the Cabana Club. Through a curated collection of photomurals, vintage swimwear, and memorabilia, visitors will explore how the shoreline has shaped the city’s culture, lifestyle, and reputation as one of Florida’s premier resort communities.
