Edgewater – Hospital Town Hall Meeting A Major Success

Last month, the Edgewater Estates community hosted senior representatives from the Boca Raton Hospital Regional Foundation at a “Town Hall” Meeting. As host of this event, I want to thank Mark Larkin, Hospital Foundation President, for his cooperation in bringing this program to our community. Major presentations were given by Hospital Foundation officials Kimberley Trombly-Burmeister, Assistant Vice President and Kevin Janser, Senior Director of Development.

They noted that the Hospital had undergone major changes in the past 5 years. They discussed the important new relationship of the Hospital (BRRH) with the Baptist Health organization. Baptist Health has invested over $660 million into Boca Raton Regional Hospital. For example, some of that money was used to develop the new state of the art Emergency Department in West Boca Raton to better serve the needs of this community.

A major topic of discussion was the new technology to be employed by the hospital. For example, a “Proteus One Pencil Beam Therapy Treatment” facility has just gone into operation at the Lynn Cancer Center at BRRH. This facility offers the latest advanced cancer care available. It is designed to provide precise targeted cancer treatment while minimizing damage to healthy tissue. Another major topic of discussion was “single bed occupancy.” When completed, over 400 patient rooms in the new Gloria Drummond Patient Tower will be single room occupancy. When all the renovations of the present hospital are completed, ALL hospital patient rooms will be single occupancy “at no additional cost.”

The guests thanked the wonderful financial support given by the Boca community to the Hospital Foundation. Over $350 million in private donations have been contributed to the Foundation by local residents to further expand the services of the Hospital. For Example, Bernie and Billi Marcus, Boca residents, recently made an extraordinary grant of over $30 million to expand the Marcus Neurological Center. Their support has resulted in what was a Community Hospital becoming a major Regional Medical Center.             A special “thank you” to Edgewater residents Lois Dermer, my co-host of this event, and Eileen Kaplan for their help in bringing this informative presentation to Edgewater. I also want to thank our residents for their thoughtful questions which demonstrated the strong interest people have regarding the Hospital.
