January 20 – February 27, 2026, Downtown Library
The Boca Raton Public Library presents a new art exhibit, “Lighthouse Keeper – The Art of Timothy Leistner.” Timothy Leistner is an artist, author, and educator. Born in Toledo, Ohio, he graduated with a B.S.Ed. degree from Ohio University and later earned his master’s and doctorate degrees from Nova Southeastern University. Leistner moved to South Florida in the early 1980s. He has won a variety of awards, both for his own artwork and for teaching art. Art awards include Best Visual Artist in Broward and Palm Beach Counties and the Artist of the Year for Community Impact. Mr. Leistner has visited lighthouses across the United States, photographing and painting all the fascinating structures he finds along rivers, lakes, and ocean shorelines.

Mr. Leistner’s work is interdisciplinary and for this exhibit, he focuses primarily on his lighthouse art. He notes that he sees himself as a “Lighthouse Keeper,” though not in a traditional sense. Mr. Leistner notes that the automation of lighthouses has replaced traditional keepers. As a result, he feels it is his duty “as an artist, to stand watch of these regal beacons.” Leistner believes that these lighthouses are meant to provide a feeling of safety despite current turbulences in the world. He feels “viewing lighthouses promotes feelings of safety, honor, and hope,” which are all sensations he feels are needed most.
“Lighthouse Keeper – The Art of Timothy Leistner,” a free exhibit, will run from January 20, 2026, to February 27, 2026, at the Downtown Library, 400 N.W. 2nd Avenue, during regular library hours. The Boca Raton Public Library provides outstanding library services, resources, and programs that meet the educational, recreational, cultural, and informational needs of the Boca Raton community.
