First: to help conserve resources, raise your thermostat even if 1 to 2 degrees in the summer and lower it 1 to 2 degrees in the winter.
Second: walk or bike more when weather permits; drive less when possible or bike and walk more.
Three: Reduce, reuse, recycle: Recycling doesn’t only mean separating your cans and bottles and papers. It can also mean using something for a second or third time.
Four: Be aware of your waste: proper disposal of products and substances as to not contaminate soil is important. On another note, do not purchase more than you need, which would need to be discarded if it spoils or will lie around somewhere unused.
Five: Use less paper or plastic: Bring your bags with you; take reusable bags to the grocery store and cut down on the 350 plastic bags the average American uses each year and reduce the deaths of marine life caused by plastic bags that end up in rivers and oceans.
Six: Use your own bottles for filtered water from home rather than purchasing plastic water bottles which end up as plastic pollution in oceans and rivers and lakes.
Seven: Turn off Lights when not in use; keep a light on in the room you are in but keep the rest of the house dark. Do the same for technology, like computers, TVs, radios, etc.
Eight: Plant a tree or create a small garden…good for the air you breathe, and for birds.
Nine: Cancel catalogs, and other mailers that you not use and end up in the garbage or recycling bin; Save our trees!
Thank you for anything you do to help protect and save the planet!
