Clowns On Call

Here we go! Another year has flown by and I’m again wishing all of you a Happy New Year!!

Our entire Clown Alley is looking forward to “Wiggles and Giggles” at the Club on Dec. 27. I hope many of you attended to cheer us on! Look for photos in the February edition of The Viewpointe.

Our event at the Coconut Creek Women’s Club was very successful. The kids were adorable and the volunteers from the Women’s Club decorated really beautifully. It was a pleasure being able to contribute to the fun we all had. Candy Bar put on a great Magic Show and amazed both the kids and their parents. All eight of us attended and that was terrific.       As I predicted, clowns who become Santa and Mrs. Claus are chatting on line about their tremendously busy season this year. Prices for their appearances can range from $300 to $1,000 per hour, and many do multiple jobs per day on 1-2 hour gigs. Some travel hundreds of miles around the country, and they all seem to really enjoy their experiences. The majority appear to be seniors, who are retired and have the time and energy to pursue this career. I think it’s great!

Just to share – I am a member of the Circus Historical Society and they have frequent Zoom sessions about a variety of Circus topics. Recently the lecture was on a new circus concept called “Omnium” which is composed of handicapped and special need performers. It was amazing to see how some individuals with severe birth abnormalities are able to perform on high wires, trapezes etc. with such skill and dexterity. Here is a comment on their use of clowns – “Clowns perform alongside other acts like dancers, unicyclists and aerialists, offering laughter and joy.” Unfortunately, “Omnium” has not scheduled any appearances in Florida to date.

Looking forward to more gigs in the New Year! Don’t forget to wave if you see a clown on campus!
